Review: Orient Mako II USA
This was the first “Real” watch of my collection. I had just moved to a new city for a better job, so I purchased this to celebrate the milestone. There are several reasons that I purchased this one. I love the geometry of the dial markers, how the 12 marker is a triangle with a flattened vertex, matching the 12 marker on the bezel. The bezel insert having the indents every 10 minutes starting with 05 is different from a lot of other divers out there with perfectly round bezel inserts. The framed day/date complication at 3 is well done and easy to read. I love the pencil shaped indices around the dial with larger ones for the 6 and 9 positions. The sword and arrow hands have plenty of lume. The crystal is sapphire glass to prevent scratches. The bracelet is well executed and has solid links with solid end links and a pressed deployant clasp with push-buttons. The sapphire crystal and solid end links really set itself apart from other similarly priced dive watches. its the perfect size at 41.5mm in diameter and 13mm thick , comes in 3 colors - black, blue and white. I wanted something a little bit more fun so I went with the blue version, but this is a watch that I could see myself buying in another colorway as well. This watch runs very consistently for me at +20 seconds per day which could be better but is well within the stated accuracy of -15 to +25 seconds per day. If you’re in the market for a diver and you’re considering this one, you won’t be disappointed if you go for it.
